support a child by volunteering

Like all of Sewa’s projects, ASPIRE relies on the continued dedication of volunteers to enrich the experience for all the children. ASPIRE students always get so excited to see a volunteer return time and again because, for them, it’s a very special relationship. As a volunteer, you become more like a new family member to help provide stability for the child.

Many people interested in volunteering are hesitant to help because they have no teaching experience. Prospective volunteers should keep in mind a few points:

  • ASPIRE coordinators will help guide volunteers.

  • Language and math assistance are not the only activities at ASPIRE.

  • Volunteers can lead a game, guide arts&crafts, play sports, teach cooking, or share any other interests with the students.

  • What’s important isn’t perfect teaching, but showing up to be there for the children.

Human learning in its most native state is primarily a relational exercise. Intelligence is not developed in the electronic crucibles of cold, lifeless machines but in the arms of warm, loving people. You can literally rewire a child’s brain through exposure to relationships.
